Beer–Lambert Concentration Calculator

Estimate molar concentration from absorbance, molar absorption coefficient, and optical path length using A = εlc.

Calculations run locally. Inputs are not saved or sent to analytics.

Worked example

An absorbance of 0.5, coefficient of 10,000 L·mol⁻¹·cm⁻¹, and 1 cm path length give 0.00005 M (50 µM).

Assumptions and limitations

Use a coefficient for the same substance, wavelength, solvent, and conditions. Scattering, chemical changes, and detector nonlinearity can invalidate the estimate. This tool does not fit calibration curves or assess measurement uncertainty.

Reference and calculation checks

IUPAC Gold Book: Beer–Lambert law. The reference explains the underlying method; it does not endorse Toollinks.

Implementation checked October 19, 2026 using automated examples, unit conversion checks, and invalid-input checks. These checks do not certify a laboratory protocol. Read our calculation standards or report a reproducible issue to [email protected].
